Milos, having as its capital Plaka and as its main harbor Adama, has a population of about 5000 inhabitants, and 3 uninhabited cities (those of Areti, Glaronisia and Theorihia). Being a volcanic island, was from the ancient times, and still is, a factor that has boosted the island's culture and economy (An example of that  is the world famous statue of Aphrodite), but also that drew various invaders (Phoenicians, Spartans, Dorians, Athenians,  Romans, Jewish, Franks, Venetians and Turkish), a factor that consequently led to the massacre of its inhabitants.

Its worthwhile to see the Sirmata (boat keeping areas, dug in solid lava), the catacombs of Milos, and the island's sandy beaches.
